We met Jamie Gould, an expatriate Brit from Bath - also a Rick Steves' tour guide - who led us on a tour of the wall. He was passionate and eloquent in his explanations of the precision of military engineering that went into constructing the wall. So successful were the Lucchese in creating a defense, that Lucca was never attacked after the construction of the final wall.
