I adore photography! I try to create images that reveal the charm from the places I've been. Overall, I took over 400 photos, and I've presented some of the best in this photo gallery.

On my first Rick Steves' trip to Village Italy in 2004, one of my friends wanted to take a photo of a cat in each town we visited. (The one cat I managed to photograph is in honor of Suzanne!) During my week in Florence, I focused - literally - on door knockers! How delightful to find so many unique examples of door knockers that Florentines see and touch and pass by every day. In Lucca, as I was photographing one extraordinary door knocker, I noticed a Lucchese woman observe my interest, and then she looked at the door...and we both smiled at the beauty of everyday life in Italy!

There's a fine balance between taking numerous photos and putting the camera down at times to simply experience the atmosphere of a quiet church, or to laugh with a crowd at some puppeteers.

Some of the photos of the art that we saw are not my own - photography is not permitted in some museums - and I give credit to the correct photographer or source. I may grumble about the inconvenience of carrying a large DSLR camera, but I'm very pleased with the results when I get home!
I hope you enjoy my photos!
